It’s Halloween Time Again!

It’s that time of the year again — when pumpkins grin, ghosts float about and spiders suddenly become fashionable! Whether you’re planning to dress up or simply enjoy the spooky atmosphere, why not bring a touch of Halloween into your quilting? I’ve got a few fun ideas to help you add some playful “scary” touches to your stitching.

A Spider Web Corner Filler

When I’m doing graffiti quilting, I often get stuck for ideas to fill awkward corners. That’s when a spider web comes to the rescue — it’s the perfect spooky filler! You can anchor the web’s threads into your existing quilting lines or simply let them drift off into the background. Once your web is stitched, go back and add some circular or spiral quilting to make everything look beautifully connected.

How to Quilt a Spider Web

Start by quilting a small spiral in the center — this forms the hub of your web.

Then backtrack along your stitching line until you’re back at the starting point. From there, quilt out a few “spokes” for the web, backtracking on each one to get back to the spiral outline.

Once your structure is in place, add the curved, loopy lines between the spokes to complete your web.

Other Spooky Quilting Ideas

Once you’ve mastered the spider web, you can have fun with other Halloween motifs too — think fluttering bats, cheeky ghosts or a friendly pumpkin or two. These designs are great for adding seasonal character to small projects like table runners, placemats or wall hangings.
